The Department of Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering is the basis of every “manufacturing” and requires a great variety of knowledge.

A curriculum for mechanical engineering consists of many fields such as material, energy, hydraulics, measurement, control and so on. Students will develop an ability in flexible thinking and creativity by acquiring these essential knowledge of “manufacturing”. Furthermore, they are able to learn practical and creative skills through the study of subjects aimed at experimental and practical training such as Machine Shop Practice, Mechanical Drawing, Creative Design and Production, and Mechanical Engineering Experiments.

Almost all graduates of our department are active in the industrial world including vehicles, airplanes, industrial machines, food, medicine, machine parts and so on. Also, rapid globalization of the industry provides an opportunity to manage an overseas factory for Kosen graduates who have a global awareness as well as technical skills.

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering encourages students to study in the fields of electricity and electronics as well as information and communication technologies which have increasingly gained in importance with the spread of high technology and information technology (IT) in our present society. The curriculum includes not only elemental technology but also system technology and other technologies for information and telecommunications networks. The broad and balanced curriculum supports higher education through which we rear the next generation of engineers who can meet the diversification of society’s needs.

For example, you will acquire basic technical knowledge related to electrical and electronic engineering, and to information and communication engineering. You will also study the latest high technology including electronics and information and telecommunications networks. Furthermore, you will learn image processing technology whose increasing weight is recognized in recent years. In addition, we carry out practical English education so that you can work as an engineer in the international arena.

Students have two main choices after graduation. On the one hand, they can find employment in a variety of industries related to electrical and electronic engineering, and information and communications technology. Their jobs, which they acquire according to their aptitude and ability, include research and development of products and systems, design, production, inspection, and software development by the use of programming technique. On the other hand, in the past several years about half of students either study further at the Faculty of Advanced Engineering or are admitted into the third year class at universities. Some of them receive a bachelor’s degree and find employment but recently more and more students study at postgraduate schools for a master’s or doctor’s degree.

The Department of Control Engineering

The specialized program at the Department of Control Engineering is composed of the four specific groups of subjects designed to train practical engineers: a)Machinery, b)Electricity and Electronics, c)Measurement and Control, and d)Information. Basic subjects such as Mathematics in the field of natural science necessary for the study of these specialized subjects are offered at an appropriate time throughout the course from the 1st to the 5th year. Students acquire professional knowledge and practical skills through the study of practical subjects offered in the 1st and 2nd year, and other subjects on control engineering experiment and practice such as Engineering Experiments and Practical CAD Exercises. This study is continued by independent students as “the making of things” in the course of their graduation research in the 5th year. Thus they will acquire creative abilities needed for research and development.

The Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture

Civil Engineering and Architecture aims at planning, designing and constructing structures like bridges, expressways, water supply and sewerage systems, and building, housing in order to make community life comfortable while preserving the natural environment.

The goal of the Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture is to bring up practical engineers capable of developing an infrastructure. Many subjects on basic theory and applied technology are offered together with experiments, practices, and design drawings for better understanding. Students interested in environmental problems can also learn subjects dealing with relationships among human beings, nature and structures. These subjects will meet the various demands of our students and help their future careers.

The graduates of the department are now active members of various institutions such as government municipal offices, public corporations, construction firms and consultant agencies.
